Video Installation

Seodang, Revived Time, 2019

This video installation invites viewers into a space where Western and Eastern educational traditions converge. Animated text drawn from Western art education literature traces the development of pedagogical thoughts in the West, while the installation’s setting evokes Korea’s historical schools (Seodang) during the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. Layered sound—Western musical notation performed on the Kayagum, a traditional Korean instrument—further entwines these cultural lineages, opening a dialogue across time and place.

As an interdisciplinary artist and border-crosser, I am drawn to the ways history unfolds through reinterpretation and exchange. By weaving together moving image and animated text, I seek to create an environment that reimagines cultural encounters and invites viewers to reflect on how histories are shaped, remembered, and retold in public space. This work continues my exploration of art as a site where multiple perspectives can coexist, intersect, and resonate.
